No more rain??? We got it...2 more inches of rain fell overnight on the already flooded midwest, rendering the Kampen Course at Purdue University barely playable. Kudos to Jim Scott (the Superintendent) and the maintenance staff at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex...out in force at daybreak, squeegies in hand and pumps in bunkers...who prepared a very well-conditioned golf course under horrid circumstances.

The innaugural event on the Laura Diaz FCWT Junior Girls Tour was a thriller. Jordan Craig and Lauren May played together for the second straight day and dueled it out till the end. Jordan began the day three shots ahead of Lauren and started the day with three straight pars, while Lauren made double on the par 4 third. Ms. Craig was looking good. On holes 4 - 9 however, Jordan made two bogeys, while Lauren played the same stretch one-under. As they made the turn, Jordan held a slim two-shot lead.

The tough par 5 10th looked to be a real turning point, as the steely Lauren May made four, compared to the 7 Jordan Craig carded. Suddenly Lauren was ahead by a shot. Jordan made one more bogey...two back on the 12th tee. The two traded pars on the next three holes. The 15th hole on the Kampen course is short & seemingly simple, but tricky. #16 is a tough par 5, and #17 is a dicey par 3 skirting a hazard the length of the ball flight. Jordan played this stretch 2-under, with unbelievably good consecutive birdies on 15 and 16. Lauren gave one shot back at 15 and the girls approached the 18th tee separated by a single shot. Both ladies hit the fairway and the green,, and both two-putted, leaving Jordan the winner by the smallest of margins. Great golf!

Jordan credited her good play to solid ball striking and very good putting. Jordan is a very difficult competitor to defeat, as she rarely gives away shots...very consistent and mentally tough. The Laura Diaz FCWT Junior Girls Midwest Classic was the second victory for Ms. Craig, who won her first-ever FCWT start at Galloway National in the Fall of 2002. Though Lauren May posted a wonderful 73 with some clutch putting on Thursday, she just could not quite overtake Jordan.
