Draegen Majors fired an opening round of 3 under par to open the Bear Creek West Jr. Golf Classic. Majors, who won last season at the University of Oklahoma event, is looking for his first win of the 2005-06 season. Majors, a senior from Bixby, OK, had 6 birdies on the day. It was a beautiful day in Dallas, but just windy enough to make it tricky - all the more reason Major's round is noteworthy! While Majors was not one of the 7 players to make an eagle in this division on Saturday, he did lead the division in birdies! Two strokes back of Majors after a round of 1 under par is Grant Doverspike of Bakersfield, CA (2006). Grant, who was one of the players to make eagle on Saturday, also carded 4 birdies on the day. Doverspike will enter the final round 4 shots ahead of a pack of players tied for third. Mike Greene of Overland Park, KS, Philip Anzaldo of Haddonfield, NJ, Nate Barbee of Dakota Dunes, SD, Aaron McNeal of Cushing, OK (2006), Brady Wood of Broken Arrow, OK (2006), Andrew Wyatt of Lake Forest, IL (2007), and Mason Emmott of Springfield, MO (2006) all carded rounds of 75 (+3) on Saturday.
In the boys 13-15 division, Christopher Walker of The Woodlands, TX (2008), is leading by 2 after carding a 1 over par round of 73 on Saturday. Walker, who finished first among the 13-15 division at the University of Oklahoma, is looking for his second FCWT win of the season. He will need to hold off Stephen Carney of Tulsa, OK (2008) who is in 2nd at 75 and Ryan Conner of Fort Worth, TX (2009) who is in 3rd. Conner is three strokes ahead of Michael Revella of Tulsa, OK (2010). This field of 14 boys from 6 states and Canada will tee it up for the final round on Sunday. |
