Juniors battling it out

Tyler Burton of Highland Park, IL (2007) carded a round of 73 on Thursday to take over the lead from Joe Monte of Chantilly, VA (2007).  Burton continues to lead the division in birdies with 10 (5 for each round) and will have a 3 stroke advantage over Monte going into the final round on Friday.  Tyler's rounds of 72-73 put him at one over par for the event.  The morning temperatures have been chilly for Florida and the wind has been steady at 10 miles per hour on the Oak Marsh Course at Amelia Island making the temperature feel like the mid 50's.

Joe Monte, a junior from Chantilly, VA, who took the early lead when he fired the only sub-par round on Wednesday will start the final round in second place, 3 strokes back of Burton.  Joe's 2 under par round on Wednesday included 14 pars.

Currently in third place at +6 is Gregor Slabe of SLOVENIA (2007), who began the day in 6th place but carded a 74 on Thursday to move up the leaderboard.  Slabe won the Golfweek/FCWT Holiday Invitational last week.  Sean Dale of Jacksonville, FL (2008), kept himself in contention as he has throughout the month of December with a round of 77 that puts him in 4th place heading into Friday's final round.  Senior Jacob Davidson of Jacksonville and Bryan Eger of Hopkinton, MA (2007), will begin the final round in a tie for 5th, 9 shots back of Burton.

In the boys 13-15 division, Mike Smith of Ponte Vedra, FL (2008), who began the day in 4th place - one stroke back of the co-leaders, carded a round of 73 to move into sole possession of 1st place heading into the final round.  Smith will have a 2 shot lead over Mark McCumber of Ponte Vedra, FL (2009).  McCumber, who leads this division in pars for the event with 24 will have a 1 stroke advantage over Hojin Kang of Longwood, FL (2010), who is leading this division in birdies with 7.  Ed Waller of Ponte Vedra will start the day in 4th place at 156, 4 shots back of Kang.  Starting in 5th place will be Richard Werenski of South Hadley, MA (2010), who was a co-leader at the end of round one.

Eleven year old Joshua Lee of Orange Park, FL (2013), continues to lead the 11-12 division after rounds of 79-85.  He will have a 6 stroke advantage over Michael Werenski of South Hadley, MA (2012) and John Boehme of Jacksonville Beach, FL (2012) heading into the final round.    Boehme improved his opening round of 91 by 12 strokes to move into the tie for 2nd place.

Fifteen year old Meghan Green of Jacksonville, FL (2008), began round two of the Amelia Island Junior Golf Classic, in third place - three strokes back of round one leader Gia Fanelli of West Palm Beach, FL (2007).  Miss Green carded the Low Round of the day on Thursday with a +8 that moved her into 1st place (164) and a 2 shot advantage over Miss Fanelli entering Friday's final round.  Miss Fanelli continues to lead the division in pars with 18 for the event.  Thirteen year old Christine Meier of Rochester Hills, MI (2010), who finished 3rd at Duke, finds herself in that same position heading into the final round.  Miss Meier leads this division in birdies with 5 and is at 168.  Catherine O'Donnell of Ponte Vedra, FL, will begin the final round in 4th place at 170 and Cassie Boles of Lakeland, FL (2009) and Alexis Holmes of Lincoln, NE (2008) will start tied for 5th at 171.
