| Thirteen year old Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, CA, took the first round lead at the Tucson Junior Golf Classic, hoping never to look back. However, Alexandrea Schulte of Broken Arrow, OK (2006) has changed all that. Miss Schulte has pulled within one stroke of Miss Frasier with one round left to play. Both girls teed it up off #1 at 10:39 am. Many of the girls played really well on the front nine, then the wind began to howl as they made the turn. As they all struggled to adjust to the conditions, Danielle gave a few strokes back to the course. Tomorrow is a new day, however, and there are still 18 holes of golf left to play.
Andrea Watts of Lone Tree, CO (2008) will start the day 2 strokes back of Alexandrea in 3rd place. Kaitlin Drolson of Rancho Santa Fe, CA (2008) will start the day in 4th place after rounds of 75-78. Holding onto 5th place and just 2 strokes back of Kaitlin is Marie Angelica Villareal of Vista, CA (2007).
It was a "to the wire" day as the last group of players finished putting at the Tucson Jr. Golf Classic just as the last peeks of sun were disappearing. Then in the Boys 16-18 division, it appears the competition is also going to go to the wire.
Austyn Karle of Scottsdale, AZ (2007) who fired a round of 4 under par on Friday to take the lead, followed up on Saturday with a round of 3 under par 70 and leads Tim McKenney of Scottsdale, AZ (2006) by one stroke going into the final round. McKenney who has won multiple times on the FCWT, has never won the boys 16-18 division at Tucson. Two years ago he finished second to Colin Wilcox, but this year he wants a win. Unfortunately for him, probably no less than Karle would like to win. The Karle family has a champions award for this event in the Girls division as sister Taylore won here last year. For Austyn, a "Tucson Champion" of his own would be the perfect addition to the family showcase.
In third place is last weekend's Sun Devil winner, David Hahn of Henderson, NV (2007). Hahn who pulled out a miracle chip in during a playoff hole last weekend, should not be counted out of this one. He will start 3 strokes back of McKenney and 4 shots out of the lead. After firing a 71 on Saturday, the FCWT 2005 13-15 Player of the Year, Gregor Main of Danville, CA (2008) has put himself in 4th place going into Sunday's final round. Two strokes back of Main is the 2005 FCWT Central Region Player of the Year Nate Barbee of Dakota Dunes, SD (2007).
In the 13-15 division, Parker Houston of Rancho Santa Fe, CA (2010), continues to lead after 2 rounds of play. On Friday Parker fired a 3 under par 70 to lead all scores by 4 strokes. On Saturday he added two birdies to his previous 6 for a total of 8 for the event. Joshua Creel of Cheyenne, WY, who carded the only eagle of the day on Friday, and Erik Newkirk of Las Vegas, NV (2008) will begin the final round in a tie for 2nd place at 156, 6 strokes back of Houston.
