Troy Sidabras of Indiatlantic, FL, who signed an NLI to University of Mississippi this week, fired an opening round of 3 under par to lead the Boys 16-18 division at the World Woods Jr. Golf Classic. Sidabras, had a bogey-free round with 3 birdies for perfect scoring on a perfect day. The weather at the Rolling Oaks Golf Course at World Woods Golf Club on Saturday was superb! Three players are two strokes back of Sidabras at 1 under par: Andres Echavarria of Medellion, COLOMBIA (2006); Nuno Henriques of Funchal, Madeira (2005), and Jordan Lewis of West Frankfort, IL, (2008). One stroke back is another group of 3 players who came in at even par. Charlie Grace of Windermere, FL (2007), Max Griel of Rome, ITALY (2007) and Roberto Francioni of Hausen, SWITZERLAND (2007), all posted rounds of even par on Saturday to enter the final round T5. James Byrd of Windermere, FL , David Kim of Seoul, KOREA, and Adam Long of St. Charles, MO are all tied for 8th at 73 (+1). The Top 15 players in this field of 54 are within 5 shots of the lead heading into Sunday's final round.
Nineteen girls teed it up for round one of the World Woods Jr. Golf Classic. Zahra Shah (2007) of the UNITED KINGDOM, fired a 3 under par 69 to lead all scores. Shah's bogey-free round puts her one shot ahead of Marika Lendl of Goshen, CT (2008), heading into the final round. M. Lendl, like Shah, had 3 birdies on the day, but a bogey on 11 kept her out of a "co-lead" going into Sunday. Marika will have to watch her back while pursuing Zahra on Sunday as younger sister Isabelle (Lendl), class of 2009, is only two strokes back in a tie for third place with Kendra Little of Bradenton, FL (2007). Miss Little led this division in birdies with 4 on the day. Jaclyn Sweeney of Bradenton, FL, will enter Sunday's final round in 5th place. And 12 year old Dakoda Dowd of Palm Harbor, FL, will start the day in 6th place after posting an opening round of 76. Dowd may have the opportunity to realize a dream this April as she has been granted a sponsor's exemption to play in the inaugural Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open, an LPGA event, on April 27-30 in Orlando.
In the Boys 13-15 division, Carson Weinand of Naples, FL, and Cyril Suk of Hewlett, NY, will enter the final round in a tie for the lead. Both players carded rounds of even par on Saturday, Carson with 3 birdies and 3 bogeys on the way; Cyril with 4 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double bogey. Just one stroke back and T3 at 73 are Kyle Kopsick of Lake Bluff, IL (2008), who led this division in birdies with 5 on Saturday and Aaron Fitzpatrick of Windermere, FL (2009). David Lee of Seoul, KOREA will enter the final round in 5th place in this field of 14 boys. |
