HENRIQUES fires a final round of 67 to earn his first FCWT win of the season; Little comes from behind to win Girls division

On Sunday, Adam Long of St. Charles, MO, who has signed a NLI to attend Duke University, charged his way up through the pack by firing a round of 5 under par 67 that included 2 eagles.  Long, who was a Third team FCWT All-American in 2004-05, was at the top of the leaderboard for a brief time on Sunday. Ultimately his round was enough to move him into 2nd place and a share of Low Round honors, but not enough for the Title.  Sharing the Low Round honors by also firing a 67 and thereby winning the event was Nuno Henriques of Funchal, Madeira (2005)Henriques, who started the day one stroke back of Sidabras, didn't have any eagles, but he did sink 6 birdies for his round of 5 under par.  Henriques, who is looking to attend college in the States, led this division of 54 boys from 11 states and as many foreign countries in birdies for the event with 11.  Fourteen year old Ben Heisey of New Bern, NC, carded the 2nd highest number of birdies with 9.  Heisey finished T18 - keep your eye on him, he is on his way up the leaderboard!

In Saturday's opening round, Troy Sidabras of Indiatlantic, FL, who signed a NLI to University of Mississippi this week, fired bogey-free round of 3 under par to lead the Boys 16-18 division at the World Woods Jr. Golf Classic.  Three players were two strokes back of Sidabras at 1 under par after round one:  Andres Echavarria of Medellion, COLOMBIA (2006);  Nuno Henriques of Funchal, Madeira (2005), and Jordan Lewis of West Frankfort, IL, (2008).  Lewis finished in 3rd place on Sunday with rounds of 71-70 and carded 8 birdies on the weekend.  Echavarria, playing in his first FCWT event, finished 4th and also carded 8 birdies on the weekend.  Max Griel of Rome, ITALY (2007), who opened with a round of even par, started the final round in a tie for 5th with Charlie Grace of Windermere, FL (2007) and Roberto Francioni of Hausen, SWITZERLAND (2007).  Griel finished the day tied for 5th with the overnight leader Sidabras.  Andy Choi of Orlando, FL, fired a round of 4 under par 68 on Sunday to move into 11th place after opening with a round of 80.  Peter Kolosvary of Safety Harbor, FL, carded a final round of 69 to finish in 10th place.

Nineteen girls teed it up for round one of the World Woods Jr. Golf Classic on Saturday.  Zahra Shah (2007) of the UNITED KINGDOM, fired a 3 under par 69 to lead all scores.  Shah's bogey-free round put her one shot ahead of Marika Lendl of Goshen, CT (2008), heading into the final round.  Isabelle (Lendl), 2009, and Kendra Little of Bradenton, FL (2007) were two strokes back in a tie for third place.

On Sunday, Miss Little, originally from Oregon, carded the only sub-par round in the Girls division with 3 birdies on the day, finishing one under par for the event.  Kendra's next scheduled FCWT event will be at Grand Cypress in December.

Finishing in 2nd place was Marika Lendl of Goshen, CT (2008) who also resides in Bradenton, FL, for part of the year.  Marika, the eldest daughter of former professional tennis player Ivan Lendl, finished just ahead of her younger sister Isabelle who earned 3rd place.  Jaclyn Sweeney of Bradenton, FL, moved from 5th place to 4th place on Sunday and finished just ahead of Sherlyn Popelka of Zuerich (2009) who carded a round of even par on Sunday to finish in a tie for 5th place.  Also tied for 5th were Hannah Yun of Bradenton, FL, and overnight leader Zahra Shah (2007) of the UNITED KINGDOM.  Christine Miller finished in 8th place and 12 year old Dakoda Dowd of Palm Harbor, FL, finished in 9th place.  Dowd may have the opportunity to realize a dream this April as she has been granted a sponsor's exemption to play in the inaugural Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open, an LPGA event, on April 27-30 in Orlando.

In the Boys 13-15 division, Carson Weinand of Naples, FL, and Cyril Suk of Hewlett, NY, entered the final round in a tie for the lead.  Both players carded rounds of even par on Saturday, Carson with 3 birdies and 3 bogeys on the way;  Cyril with 4 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double bogey.  By the time Sunday's round was over Cyril Suk had managed to pull away from Weinand only to find himself in a three-way tie for the title and a playoff situation.  Kyle Kopsick of Lake Bluff, IL (2008) carded a second round of 73 to bring him from a T3 to a T1 and Aaron Fitzpatrick of Windermere, FL (2009) who started the day tied with Kyle in third moved right up with him.  SO off they went to #10 for a playoff.  Cyril was finally able to pull away from all his pursuers and earn his first FCWT with a birdie on the 10th hole while Kopsick and Fitzpatrick made par.  Carson Weinand of Naples, FL finished in 4th and Hugh Lindstrom (who earned Low Round honors with a 72) and David Ostrowski of Burlington, NC (2008) finished tied for 5th.
