Weather, Weather, Everywhere

Much like the Florida event, the CA field had their own weather issues.  The day began under cloudy skies with heavy rains and temperatures in the 40s   After an hour and 1/2 rain delay, the rain gave way to dropping temperatures and 15 to 20 mph winds out of the SW.

Despite the conditions Zack Kanny of Ventura, CA (2007) was able to fire a one under par (71) to open the Teal Bend Junior Golf Classic.  Kanny, playing in his first event, had 3 birdies to give him a two stroke lead over seventeen year old Josh Dupont of Poway, CA (2007), going into round two of this 54 hole event.  Dupont, an FCWT veteran who has had Top 5 finishes each of his three years on tour, led the Boys 16-18 division with 5 birdies to have a one stroke advantage over Michael Kraft of Pacific Grove, CA (2007)Kraft, who had one birdie for his round, led this division in pars with 14 on Saturday.  Kraft is looking for his first FCWT Top 5 finish.  Connor Driscoll of Encinitas, CA (2007) and Grant Norton of Rancho Murieta, CA (2006) are tied for 4th at +3.  Driscoll has a 4th and a T11 finish so far this season;  Norton is playing in his first event of the season.  Two seniors are tied for sixth at +4.  Logan Goulding of Tracy, CA and Michael Leibfried of Rolling Hills, CA both carded rounds of 76 on Saturday.  They lead three other seniors who are T8 by one stroke.  Kenneth McCready of Placerville, CA, the FCWT 13-15 Western Region Player of the Year in 2003-04, Matthew Suddaby of Camarillo, CA and Nicolas Podesta of Yuba City, CA, who finished 2nd at Coyote Creek last month, are tied at 78.  Senior Jack Allen of Granite Bay, CA, Bryce Holloway, who carded his best round of the season so far, and Bentley Eidsmo of Monterey, CA, who finished 4th at Cog Hill, are T11 at +6, 6 strokes back of Kenny.  Twenty-two players are within 10 shots of the lead going into Sunday's round two.

In the Boys 11-12 division, Kyle Bowser of Danville, CA (2012) opened with a round of 75 to lead Jay Burlison of Salinas, CA by one stroke.  Bowser has 2 second place finishes and one third so far this season.  Burlison, whose sister Sydney is #15 in the Golfweek/Titleist girls ranking, is playing in his first event.  Twelve year old Andrew Olson of Brentwood, CA, is currently in third place.
