WINDY AT WEDGEFIELD!With winds blowing at 30 mph and gusts to 50 mph, the WIND at Wedgefield was the story. Well maybe only part of the story . . . Sixteen year old Jhared Hack of Heathrow, FL (2007) is trying to do what no FCWT player, in recent memory, has done. He is trying to win his 4th title in 5 events in a single season. Hack's previous wins this season came at Grand Cypress, Innisbrook and Saddlebrook. His only "non-win" was at TPC Sawgrass where he finished T20. Hack opened the Wedgefield Junior Golf Classic with the only sub-par round in the Boys 16-18 division, a one under par 71 that included 3 birdies. Hack will enter the final round on Sunday with a one stroke lead over R. Graham Bradshaw of Indian River Shores, FL (2007), who opened with an even par round of 72 and is all alone in second place. Bradshaw carded 4 birdies on the day which tied him for the most birdies in this division (4) with Christopher Walker of The Woodlands, TX (2008), Drew Davidson of Canton, OH (2007), and Danny Weisenberg of Sarasota, FL (2006). Finishing round one at 1 over par and in third place was Shaun O'Meara of Windermere, FL (2007). O'Meara tied with Hack, Aaron Fitzpatrick of Windermere, FL (2007), and Gavin Cambre of Orlando, FL (2006) for the most pars on the day with 13. Shaun will have a one stroke lead Ian Gilley of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL (2007) entering the final round. Four players will begin Sunday's round in a tie for fifth +3 (75): Charlie Grace of Windermere, FL (2007), Raj Nahal of Longwood, FL (2006), Danny Weisenberg of Sarasota, FL (2006), and John Cisek of Coto de Caza, CA (2006). In a tie for 9th at +4 (76) are: James Byrd of Windermere, FL (2007), Eric Shaw of Longwood, FL (2007), Donnie Smiley of Weston, FL (2007), Carlos Ferraez of Veracruz, MEXICO (2006), and Aaron Fitzpatrick of Windermere, FL (2009). In the 13-15 division, 15 year old Connor Arendell of Cape Coral, FL (2008) is tied with 14 year old Hojin Kang of Longwood, FL (2010) for the lead after one round of play. Arendell is playing his first FCWT event of the season, while Kang has three Top 5s: two second place finishes and a T5. Both players posted rounds of 77 (+5) on Saturday, and will enter the final round with a one stroke lead over Jordan Rizzo of Sarasota, FL (2009) and Mike Smith of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2008) who are currently tied for 3rd. Rizzo's best finish this season was a 2nd place at Innisbrook and Smith's best finish was a win at Amelia. Devin Patel of Celebration, FL (2008), playing in his first event of the season, will begin the final round in 5th place at +7. In the Boys 11-12 division, eleven year old Marcus Plunkett of St. Augustine, FL (2012) leads by 4 strokes over 12 year old John Boehme of Jacksonville Beach, FL (2012) heading into Sunday's final round. Plunkett was the runner-up at the Sawgrass event and is now looking for his first FCWT win. Boehme has a 2nd and a 4th place finish so far this season, but is also looking for his first win. In the Girls division, 12 year old Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines, FL (2011), has a one stroke advantage over 13 year old Hannah Yun of Bradenton, FL (2010), heading into the final round. Miss Roig carded an opening round of 3 over par 75, despite the very WINDY conditions - 30 mph sustained with gusts of 50 mph. Four birdies along the way helped her to also lead this division in birdies. But don't count out Hannah Yun. Miss Yun leads the points race in the Girls division and has two wins already this season at Grand Cypress in December and last weekend at Mission Inn. She will have a one stroke advantage over Tia Gannon of Hilton Head, SC (2007), entering the final round. Miss Gannon carded a round of +5 (77) despite an 8 on the par 4 6th hole - so she will definitely be in the running on Sunday. In fourth place is Anne Sprick of Windermere, FL (2006) who won the University of Florida event. Miss Sprick leads Samantha Troyanovich of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI, 2007 by one stroke. |
