Senior Robert Budenbender of Citrus Heights, CA, took the first round lead in this 54 hole event with a round of one over par 73. Robert led this division in birdies with 5 on the day. He leads senior Ryan Hallisey of Granite Bay, CA, by 2 strokes entering Sunday's second round. In third place at +4 76 are senior Tyler Smith of San Juan Capistrano, CA, who led this division in pars with 13, and Peter Gibbs of Granite Bay, CA (2007), who carded two eagles on the day: one on #12 and one on #16 and Kamden Brakel of Acampo, CA (2007). In a tie for sixth at 77 are senior Bradley Wyatt of La Verne, CA, and junior Steve Ziegler of Broomfield, CO. Four players are tied for 8th at +6 (78), 5 shots back of Budenbender: Boz Bascou of Woodbridge, CA (2006), Niko Bain of Glendale, AZ (2008), Bayhaan Lakdawala of Dubai, UAE (2006) and Matthew Miller of Pleasanton, CA (2008).
In the Boys 13-15 division, Parker Houston of Rancho Santa Fe, CA (2010), who has two wins already this season, has a 3 stroke advantage over Kevin Rei of Sonora, CA (2008), Matt Rawitzer of Bellingham, WA (2009) and Connor Green of Selma, CA (2008) going into round two. Bradford Thomas of San Anselmo, CA (2008) is currently in 5th place with two rounds left to play. In the Boys 11-12 division, Luke Vivolo of Carmel, CA (2011) opened with a round of 78 to lead all scores by 5 shots. Vivolo, who won at Mission Hills in December, even carded an eagle in his opening round - on the par 5 16th hole. |
