The 2004-05 FCWT Boys 13-15 Central Region Player of the Year came to the University of Oklahoma Jr. Golf Classic ready to play.  Now in the 16-18 division, Kevin Kring of Springfield, MO (2008), who finished tied for top honors among the 13-15 year olds at this event last year, took the early lead this year after firing a three under par 69 that included 6 birdies.  Kring's play in the boys oldest division has earned him a current Golfweek/Titleist ranking of 148.  Two other players were in early with sub-par rounds.  Brad Mason of Dallas, TX (2007), and Cameron Myers of Edmond, OK (2009), both carded rounds of one under par (71) on Saturday to open the ninth season of the FCWT.  Senior Justin Jang of Lawton, OK came in at even par, just three strokes back of Kring.  Rounding out the Top 5 was William Kropp of Edmond, OK (2008) at +1.  Don't count Kropp out as he is currently in the Top 50 in the Golfweek/Titleist rankings.  Jonathan Myers and Tyler Rody are tied at 74, 5 shots off the pace.  Last season's winner, Draegen Majors of Bixby, OK (2006), is tied with 6 other players at 75, T8.  Majors has shown he can go low on this golf course when last season he fired an opening round of 3 under par 69.  Weather was cold in the morning mid 40's and warmed up to high 60's. The Jimmie Austin Golf Course is in excellent condition, the greens are very true and in perfect shape.

Fifteen year old Mitch Carlson of Overland Park, KS, posted the low round among the 13-15 year olds with a 76.  Carlson's round was just one stroke better than Stephen Carney of Tulsa, OK, and Ryan Conner of Fort Worth, TX (2009) who are tied at 77.  Thirteen year old Harry Higgs of Overland Park (2010) was in with a 78 and fourteen year old Karsten Majors of Bixby (2009) and Jordan McLaurin, Ironton, MO (2008) posted rounds of 80.
