| The 2004-05 FCWT Boys 13-15 Central Region Player of the Year came to the University of Oklahoma Jr. Golf Classic ready to play. Now playing in the oldest boys division, Kevin Kring of Springfield, MO (2008), took the early lead on Saturday firing a three under par 69 that included 6 birdies. On Sunday, Kring, who finished tied for top honors among the 13-15 year olds at this event last year, had to hold off a strong charge from Robert Mayo of Austin, TX. Mayo, a junior, had the low round of the final day and of the tournament with a 4 under par 68. His round included 6 birdies and brought him from six shots back after round one to sole possession of 2nd place on Sunday. The second best round of the day was put on the board by Mike Greene of Overland Park, KS (2006). Greene improved his score by 9 strokes and carded a 3 under par 69 on Sunday to finish in a tie for seventh.
Finishing in third place was fourteen year old Brad Mason of Dallas, TX (2007), who posted two solid rounds of 71 and 73 to finish at even par for the event. Last season's winner, Draegen Majors of Bixby, OK (2006), began the day tied for 8th with 6 other players at 75. On Sunday he came within one stroke of his opening round last season of 3 under par 69. Sunday's round of 70 was enough to move Majors into a 4th place finish. Finishing in a T5 at 146 were William Kropp (2008) and Cameron Myers (2009), both of Edmond, OK. The weather was cold and windy in the morning but warmed up and the wind died down by the afternoon. The Jimmie Austin Golf Course is in excellent condition, the greens are very true and in perfect shape.
Christopher Walker of The Woodlands, TX (2008), made a phenomenal come back to take the top honors among the younger players. Chris, who opened with an 82, fired a round of 70 on Sunday and finished T18 overall. Fourteen year old Ryan Conner of Fort Worth, TX (2009), improved both his rounds from last year's round of 80 to earn the 2nd place honors among these players. Nathan Frederick who finished T25 with Conner, is one of only 2 players to card an eagle in this event. Frederick carded a 3 on the par 5 17th hole on Sunday to join Mitch Carlson who carded the ace on #11 on Sunday. |
