Zaytoun FIRES final round of 4 under par to win

Henry Zaytoun III of Raleigh, NC (2007), fired a final round of 4 under par (67) to win his first FCWT tournament since 2003-04 when he won the 13-15 division at the Bermuda Run event just down the road.  Zaytoun, who began the day tied for the lead with Aaron Eckstein of Salem, VA (2007), just "got it going early" and didn't look back.  Zaytoun made birdie on the first hole of the Tanglewood Championship Golf Course after making a 6 on that hole in Saturday's opening round.  By the time he made the turn he had made 2 more birdies and was 2 under par for his round.  He birdied 10, 12 and 16 before making only his second bogey of the day on # 17, but still finished 4 under par and 4 shots ahead of Eckstein.  On Saturday, the two juniors opened with rounds of even par 71.  Henry was one of three players to card an eagle during Saturday's round - his came on the par 4 11th hole.  Eckstein played a perfectly balanced round on Saturday of even par on both sides of this difficult Championship Course.  While Eckstein would have enjoyed a win here, his second place finish is a personal victory of sorts.  After bogeying the first three holes on Sunday, Eckstein battled back to 2 over par at the turn then made 4 birdies on the back nine including 17 and 18 to allow him to post his second round of even par for the event and earn 2nd place honors.  Another personal victory was obtained by 3rd place finisher senior Brendan Gielow of Muskegon, WIGielow fired a bogey-free round of 3 under par on Sunday after opening with a 75 on Saturday that put him in a tie for 11th going into the final round.  An eagle on the par 5 11th hole on Sunday helped William Miller of Venetia, PA (2007), to finish in 4th place with two rounds 72.  Ramsay Quinn of Wilmington, NC (2007) finished in 5th place with rounds of 73-72. Jay Vandeventer of Bristol, VA (2009), held his own as the only underclassman to finish  in the Top 10 for the second time this season.  The 15 year old played "his game" amidst the juniors and seniors - watch for him in the future.  The defending champion, Cody Paladino of Kensington, CT (2007), finished in 7th place after starting the final round in a tie for 11th.  Sang Chun of Winter Springs, FL (2006), who also began the day in a tie for 11th led this division in birdies with 10 and finished T8 with Matthew Kennerknecht of Vienna, VA (2007).  Senior Jack Ulrich of Southern Pines, NC, held his position in 10th place - his best of the season.

Cromie takes over points lead in 13-15 division after winning in a playoff

Michael Cromie of Cary, NC (2010) and Bo Andrews of Raleigh, NC (2009) began Sunday's final round in a tie for second, two strokes back of overnight leader Isaac Spencer of Winston-Salem, NC (2009).  At the end of Sunday's round they were still tied, only this time for first place.  On the first hole of the playoff, Cromie made par to earn his 3rd FCWT win of the season.  For Andrews, it was his second 2nd place finish of the season.  Earning his third Top 3 of the season was 14 year old Richard Werenski of South Hadley, MA (2010).

In the Boys 11-12 division, Michael Werenski of South Hadley, MA (2012) held his lead to win by one over Joshua Lee of Orange Park, FL.  This was Werenski's 5th win of the season in 7 events.

Fifteen year old Courtney Ellenbogen of Blacksburg, VA (2009) returned to Tanglewood to defend her title and defend it she did.  Miss Ellenbogen who won here in 2005 carded an opening round of 75 (+4) to have a 3 stroke advantage going into Sunday's final round.  On Sunday Courtney made par on the last 3 holes and carded a 76 to finish 7 strokes ahead of second place.  Miss Ellenbogen led this division in birdies with 4 for the event.  Hunter Ross of Manakin-Sabot, VA (2008), who won at both Pine Needles and the TPC Sawgrass event, moved from 4th place to 2nd with a final round of 78.  Sarah Whitney of Hingham, MA (2007) and Abby Bools of Hickory, NC (2008) finished T3 at 161.  Jordan Ridge of Southern Pines, NC (2007) finished in 5th.
