Constable wins in first FCWT event!
On Saturday the weather was in the high 60's in the morning with partly cloudy skies. Then late in the morning the wind picked up and the temperatures began to drop. Overnight this area experienced some severe weather and on Sunday the weather was cold and windy in the morning with temperatures in the mid-50s. The wind was very tough all day - swirling to 15 mph.
FCWT newcomer, Donald Constable of Deephaven, MN, took the early lead at the Far Oaks Junior Golf Classic and never looked back. Constable, fired an opening round of 2 under par, 70 on Saturday that began with an eagle on the par 5 first hole. On Sunday, he carded 3 birdies despite the cold and windy conditions. His final round of even par 72 was enough to give him a 5 stroke win over Dustin Koth of Bloomington, IL. Koth led this division in birdies with 9. Sixteen year old Donald, who was the 2005 Minnesota Junior Champion, has now earned an automatic exemption to the FCWT National Championship in May. Koth's second place finish is his second Top 5 of the season (he also finished T4 at Cog Hill 2 weeks ago). Ravi Patel of Naperville, IL started and ended the day in 3rd place with rounds of 72-77-149.
On Saturday in the boys 13-15 division, Tyler Downing of Sturgis, MI (2009) opened with a round of 1 over par 73. On Sunday, he carded the only sub-par round in this division and finished at 144, 4 strokes ahead of second place. Second place honors went to Jon Trasamar of Blue Earth, MN (2009), with two rounds of 2 over 74..
In the girls division, Alexis Holmes of Lincoln, NE (2008) shot 75-84-159 to win. |
