The FCWT Girls East Region Player of the Year, Ji Young Oh from South Korea (2007) turned up the heat on Sunday and never looked back in pursuit of her 6th FCWT win of the season. Miss Oh, who put together a strong first round on Saturday on the Squires Course, with only a bump in the road on #12, followed up with an even better round on Sunday. On Saturday, Miss Oh carded 13 pars, 4 birdies and 1 double bogey to post a two under par 70. On Sunday, she fired a round of 4 under par 68 which included 5 birdies and only one bogey. She entered the final round with a six stroke advantage over Tia Gannon of Hilton Head, SC (2007) and Ines Chandra of INDONESIA (2007).
On Monday, Miss Oh carded her sixth round of the season in the 60s and earned her 6th win and first FCWT National Championship title. Seven birdies, two bogeys, and nine pars gave her a final round score of 5 under par 67 and put her 12 shots ahead of 2nd place. The 17 year old junior has been the model of consistency in FCWT play with all her rounds falling between 66-74. Her scoring average coming into the Championship was 70.55. Previous FCWT Girls Champions include: Taylore Karle, Christine Yun, and Sookhee Baek.
Fourteen year old Sherlyn Popelka of SWITZERLAND (2009) battled her way up the leaderboard to finish in 2nd place. Both she and Miss Oh, along with all the FCWT winners and runners-up, have earned an automatic exemption to the Optimist International Junior Championships this summer. Miss Popelka, who finished 2nd at Champions Gate in November, carded the second best round of the day with her 2 under par 70, which allowed her to finish two strokes ahead of third place winner, Tia Gannon of Hilton Head, SC (2007)..jpg)
Miss Gannon stayed in contention all weekend with rounds of 72-72-75 and earned her third Top 3 finish of the season. Thirteen year old Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines, FL (2011), thirteen year old Dakoda Dowd of Palm Harbor, FL (2012), who carded a final round of even par, and 16 year old Ines Chandra of INDONESIA (2007) finished T4 at 221 (+5).
Junior Courtney Harter of Clearwater, FL, carded the only other sub-par round on Monday of 71 which allowed her to finish in 15th.
In the most closely contested division of the Championship, first round leader 12 year old Allie Kiser of Orlando, FL (2011) fired a one under par 71 on Monday to edge out 13 year old Doris Chen of TAIWAN (2011) who had taken the lead during round two. Miss Kiser, who won the Feather Sound event, carded 4 birdies, 3 bogeys and 11 pars on way to her 2nd title of the season. For Miss Chen, who fired a round of even par 72 on Sunday, it was her second Top 2 of the season. Eleven year old Karen Chung of Livingston, NJ (2013) finished in 3rd place followed by ten year old Robbi Howard of Bradenton, FL (2013). Previous FCWT Girls 14 and under Champions include: Jennie Arseneault and Hannah Yun.
