Senior Cole Turner of Marion, IN, carded a final round of 75 to slip past Daniel Mollicone of Rhode Island (2006) who was trying to earn his second FCWT win of the season after winning the season opener at Notre Dame. Turner, who finished one stroke behind Mollicone at the Notre Dame event, turned the tables and finished one stroke ahead of Mollicone and Adam Hogue of Plymouth, MI (2006) on Sunday at the Cog Hill Junior Golf Classic. Turner's 9 birdies for the event, which led this division, made the difference and earned him his first FCWT win. Hogue made a valiant effort with 8 birdies for the event, but came up just one short and tied with Mollicone for 2nd place.
In a three-way tie for fourth were: Ross Millman of St. Louis, MO, (2006) who began the day in 7th place, along with Dustin Koth of Bloomington, IL (2007) and Bentley Eidsmo of Monterrey, CA (2007). who both began the day tied for 5th. Cody Paladino of Kensington, CT 2007) finished in 7th place and Adam Long of St. Louis, MO (2006), moved up from T11 to finish in alone in 8th place. Four players finished tied for 9th at +11, 155: Samuel Chavez of Hillsborough, CA (2007), Kelly Kretz of Antigo, WI ( 2007), Ravi Patel of Naperville, IL (2007) and Peter Haller of Winnetka, IL (2006).
Ironically, a "flip-flop" also occurred in the Girls Division. At Notre Dame, Aimee Neff of Carmel, IN, won over Ellen Mueller of Evansville, IN (2007) by in a playoff after both players finished at 151. Here at Cog Hill, Ellen took the early lead after an opening round of 76 and never looked back. While Aimee cut into Mueller's 5 stroke lead on Sunday, it was too much to overcome and Mueller won by 2 shots. FCWT newcomer Abby Cotter finished in 3rd place in this field of 15 with rounds of 84-85.
In the 11-12 divison, Bailey Truesdell of Grand Blanc, MI (2012) took the opening round lead with an 89 and sailed to his first FCWT victory. Michael Inzano of Burr Ridge, IL (2012) expanded his 2 stroke opening round lead and finished in 2nd place. Ten-year old Austin Rendell of Winnetka, IL (2013), who won the Notre Dame event, finished in 3rd place.
In the 13-15 division, Shawn Steurer of Batavia, IL (2009), led from the start. Bradley George of Marion, IA (2008) was able to shave 2 strokes off his lead on Sunday, but Shawn won by one. Ryan Blair of Omaha, NE (2009), finished in 3rd place 2 strokes back of George. Blair led this division with 5 birdies for the event. Daniel Stringfellow, Roselle, IL, 2010, finished in 4th out of the 15 in this division and Landon Tujague, Dallas, TX, 2009 finished in 5th. |
