Hannah Yun earns first win of the season; third top 5 finish at Grand Cypress
In the girls division at the Grand Cypress Jr. Golf Classic, thirteen year old Hannah Yun of Bradenton, FL (2010), took the first round lead with a round of 2 over par 74 on Saturday. Hannah's opening round gave her a 2 stroke advantage over junior Zahra Shah going into Sunday's final round. Miss Yun's lead held as she finished 2 strokes ahead of Rhea Nair, a senior from Dubai, UAE. Miss Nair, who began the final round in third place after an opening round of 77, posted a final round of 4 over par 76. The Low Round of the day went to Kendra Little, the winner of the World Woods event. Kendra's final round of 74 moved her into 3rd place. Miss Shah, who is originally from the United Kingdom, but attends school in Bradenton, FL, finished in 4th place, 4 strokes ahead of Emily Kwak of Silver Spring, MD (2007).
Hack fires a final round of 3 under par to win by two over Dale and Sandhu
Fifty-five boys teed it up on Saturday for the opening round of the Grand Cypress Jr. Golf Classic. Ajeetesh Sandhu of Chandigarh, INDIA, 2007, was the early leader, arriving in the scoring area with a 1 under par round of 71. Ajeetesh made 6 birdies on the day to lead this division. About a half an hour later, Jed Dirksen of Hampton, IA, 2007, bumped Sandhu down a step as he arrived in the scoring area at 3 under par with 5 birdies and only 2 bogeys on the day. Jed's score would hold. Joining Sandhu at -1 was Jhared Hack of Heathrow, FL (2007). On Sunday, Hack, currently ranked 48th in the Golfweek/Titleist rankings, fired a final round of 3 under par 69 to finish at 140 for the event. Hack finished 2 strokes ahead of Ajeetesh Sandhu, who led the division in birdies with 13 for the event and Sean Dale of Jacksonville, FL, who fired a bogey-free round of 2 under par 70 to move into the tie for second place with Sandhu.. Finishing in 4th place with two rounds of 72 even par was Sandro Piaget of Jupiter, FL (2006). Finishing in a tie for 5th place were overnight leader Jed Dirksen of Hampton, IA, 2007, Aaron Fitzpatrick of Windermere, FL (2009) , and Bradley Freed of Weston, FL (2007), who led this division in pars with 15 on Saturday.
In the boys 13-15 division, 14 year old Phillip Choi of Bethesda, MD (2009) took the first round lead by firing a two under par 70. On Sunday, he followed up with a 3 over par 75 to finish at 145 for the event, 3 strokes ahead of Leibel. Lucas Leibel of ONTARIO, Canada (2008) opened with a 75 on Saturday which put him in 2nd place going into the final round. On Sunday he improved his score by 2 strokes and earned the Low Round honors with his 73, but it was not enough to overtake Choi's lead. Finishing in third place in his first FCWT event was Tanapol Vattanapisit of Rayong, Thailand (2012). Twelve year old Vattanapisit carded two rounds of 78, finishing ahead of 12 13-15 year olds. |
