In the first FCWT Grayhawk Junior Golf Classic, local player senior Ryan Williams fired a 3 under par round of 69 to take the opening round lead in the Boys 16-18 division.  Ryan is not the only local at the top of the leaderboard.  Four of the top 5 players are from Scottsdale, AZ, home of the Grayhawk Raptor Course, the exception is David Hahn who is from Henderson, NV.    Williams had 4 birdies on the day and only one bogey.  Previously Williams' best FCWT finish was T19 at ASU earlier this month.  Williams is currently leading the winner of that ASU event, Michael Garden (2007) who carded a round of even par to hold 2nd place all alone.  Garden led the FCWT USA Team to a victory in the match against Canada at ASU while also taking home medalist honors in the individual competition.  Right behind Garden is Austyn Karle who has come so close to winning a couple of times this season, so don't count him out.  In addition to a 2nd and 3rd place finish already this season, Karle carded the Low Round at ASU with a 6 under par 66.  One stroke back of Karle are Thomas Buran and David Hahn at +2.  Hahn has an FCWT win already this season, Buran is playing in his first event of the season.  Three players are at 75:  Eric Grimberg of Portland, OR (2007), Bryan Harris of Rancho Mirage, CA (2007), and David Zeuske of Coto de Caza, CA (2007).  In 9th place at +4 is Maxwell Scodro and four players at tied for 10th at 77 - 8 strokes back of the leader.

Matthew Schovee of Englewood, CO (2008) leads the Boys 13-15 division after an opening round of 75.  Matthew's best finish on the FCWT this season was a 7th place at Champions Gate over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Schovee leads Ben Itterman of Carlsbad, CA (2010) by one stroke.  Itterman was the winner of the Escena event earlier this month.  In third place is Brian O'Regan of Walnut Creek, CA (2008) at 77.  O'Regan finished 4th at the Sun Devil in November.  In 4th place is Trent Sanders, who carded the only eagle in this division on Thursday.  Trent has 2 FCWT wins already this season, having won both events at ASU.

Twelve year old Zachary Wright of Phoenix, AZ (2012), leads the 11-12 division by 2 strokes over David Lowe of Scottsdale, AZ (2011).  Wright has one FCWT win this season already at the Sun Devil in November.  Lowe's best finish so far is a 3rd place at the ASU event earlier this month.  Austin Quick of Scottsdale is tied for 3rd with Luke Vivolo of Carmel, CAQuick finished 2nd at the Sun Devil behind WrightVivolo is coming off a win last weekend at the Mission Hills Invitational.

Fifteen year old Ashley McKenney of Scottsdale, AZ (2008) fired a one under par round of 71 to open the first FCWT Grayhawk Junior Golf Classic.  Miss McKenney has been near the top of the leaderboard several times this season with a 2nd at Tucson and a 3rd at ASU, but is still looking for her first FCWT win.  She leads Glory Yang of Murrieta, CA (2007) by 4 strokes heading into the final round.  Ashley had a solid round of 3 birdies on the day.  Miss Yang also had 3 birdies on the day but a few more bogeys on her scorecard made the difference.    Five strokes back of Miss Yang are Cara Freeman of San Juan Capistrano (2007) and Alexandra Gibson of Henderson, NV (2007) in a tie for third at +8.  In 5th place is FCWT newcomer, Katie Saucier of Bainbridge Island, WA (2007).  Miss Saucier is one stroke back of Cara and Alexandra going into the final round.
