Sixteen year old Samantha Morrell of North Kingston, RI (2009), took the opening round lead in the Girls 13-18 division at the New England Open. Miss Morrell had 1 birdie and 9 pars on her way to a round of 80 that puts her one shot ahead of 13 year old Bryce Schroeder of Pueblo, CO (2012). Miss Schroeder led this division in pars with 10 on Saturday. Both ladies are playing in their first FCWT event. On Sunday, they will be paired with Cortney Tilley of Plaistow, NH (2009). Miss Tilley, who will start in 3rd place, opened with a round of 84 which puts her 4 strokes back of Miss Morrell. Juliet Vongphoumy of Providence, RI (2011) and Natalie Wisniewsi of Williamsville, NY (2009) are currently tied for 4th place at 86.
Tobin Dunigan of Jackson, MI (2008) led all scores in the Boys 13-18 division with a +3 75. Dunigan finished T4 at the Notre Dame event the beginning of October, but will be looking for his first win on Sunday. Four players are right on his heels. Brian Murphy of Wilton, CT (2009), John Brennan of East Longmeadow, MA (2009), who led this division in birdies with 4, and Maxwell Campion of Brookline, MA (2009) all carded an opening round of 76. Fourteen year old Alex DiClemente of Burlington, CT (2010), who normally plays the 13-15 division, also carded an opening round of 76.
