The day started at the Bermuda Run Classic with a one hour frost delay. North Carolina has been getting its first taste of fall recently, making it crisp in the morning, but warming nicely in the afternoon. By 11:00am it was a beautiful morning with clear skies and limited wind. Bermuda Run is in excellent condition, ideal for scoring.

Ryan Davis took advantage of that scoring opportunity by firing a 2 under par 70. The 16 year old from Salem, VA (2009), led the field in birdies with 6. Last season, Davis finished 2nd at this event. This year he is hoping to take home the title and the exemption to the National Championship. In order to do that he will need to hold off Spencer Lawson of Raleigh, NC (2010), who is playing in his first FCWT event. Lawson carded a round of even par 72 and will start the final round one stroke ahead of fellow Raleigh inhabitant, Brandon Wright (2009). Wright finished 7th in this event last season. One stroke back of Wright is Michael Cromie of Cary, NC (2010), who led this division in pars with 16 on Saturday. Cromie, 15, won this event at the 13-15 division last season. Three players are tied for 5th at 76: John Conners of Apex, NC (2009), E. J. MacFarland of Pittsburgh, PA (2009), and Kyle Stucklen of Sayville, NY (2008). Three players are also tied for 8th and could easily move up the leaderboard. Bo Andrews of Raleigh, NC (2009) and Daniel Walker of Earlysville, VA (2009), both have proven track records with the FCWT. Watch for either one or both to go low. Blanton Farmer of Lexington, KY (2009) is new to the FCWT and could very well do the same - only time will tell, and tonight we get an extra hour of time.

Jared Howard of Dublin, OH (2011) is in 4th place at 75 and Ryan Fricke of Raleigh, NC (2010) will start the final round in 5th place at 76.
Zach Weaver of Williamsburg, VA (2013) leads the Boys 11-12 division heading into Sunday's final round.

Eighteen year old senior, Hunter Ross of Manakin-Sabot, VA, took the first round lead at the Bermuda Run Classic. Ross, a 5th year player on the FCWT, finished T3 at this event last season. She led the field in birdies on Saturday with 3 and will have a 2 stroke lead over Meghan Moore of Bahama, NC (2009) heading into the final round. Miss Moore, who also finished T3 at this event last season, had two birdies on Saturday and tied Lauren Greenlief of Oakton, VA (2008) for the most pars with 10. Miss Greenlief will start in 3rd place at 78, just 3 strokes back of Hunter. |
