Showdown at Coyote Creek ~ Carson takes it home

When a golf course is called Coyote Creek, it brings images to mind of the Wild West - at least for some of us.  So it seems only fitting that a Carson, not Kit, but Dennis should win such an event.

At the end of Round One at the Coyote Creek Open, Grant Rappleye of Elk Grove, CA (2008), who won the Sun Devil Classic two weeks ago, was co-leading with another senior from California, FCWT veteran player Dennis Carson of BurlingameCarson.  Carson, playing in his first event of the season, carded 4 birdies on Saturday and only one bogey on the day to match Rappleye's first round score.  On Sunday the two co-leaders were paired with another FCWT veteran

Brian O'Regan of Walnut Creek, CA (2008) who began the day in 3rd place.  Carson began with a bogey on Sunday, not the way one wants to start such things.  But he quickly came back with a birdie on the 2nd hole and he and Rappleye were back to all square.  They remained tied through the 6th hole and then Rappleye made his first bogey on # 7.  They both made bogey on # 8 and then birdie on # 9, but # 10 put some distance between the two as Carson made par while Rappleye made double bogey.  Carson ended up posting a 74 for the round which was enough to give him the victory by 2 strokes over 14 year old Patrick Grimes of Palo Alto, CA (2011).  Grimes, who led this division in birdies on Saturday, continued his streak of never finishing lower than 5th in an FCWT event - even now that he is playing at the 16-18 level.

Jay Myers of San Jose, CA (2008), who also carded a final round of 74 finished in a tie for 3rd place with Grant Rappleye.  Low Round honors went to Pace Johnson of Fresno, CA (2009) and Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz, CA (2010), both players carded a final round of 72.  McElyea finished in 5th place overall.

At the end of Round One there were co-leaders in the Boys 13-15 division.  Macgregor Hoobery of Santa Maria, CA (2011) and Brendan Connolly of Castle Rock, CO (2011) both carded rounds of 72.  Hoobery, a 2006-07 1st team FCWT All-American, led the field in pars with 14 on Saturday, but Connolly, who was playing in his first FCWT, was holding his own.

On Sunday, Hoobery carded a round of 75 which tied

Luke Vivolo of Carmel, CA (2011) and Lawrence Fu of Piedmont, CA (2012) for Low Round, but also gave him his first title of the 2007-08 season.  Vivolo took home 2nd place and Connolly earned 3rd.  David Rohrs of Los Altos, CA (2010) carded rounds of 74-78 to finish in 4th place, just above Fu who finished 5th.

Twelve year old Christopher Petefish of Danville, CA (2014) followed his opening round of 74 with a 78 to win his second event of the season.  He joins Evan Mcleod of Pebble Beach, CA (2013), who also has 2 wins so far this season.  Brandon Hing of Danville, CA (2013) and Matt Tenyo of Menlo Park, CA (2012), finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The takes the Title

Kristen Allard of Porterville, CA (2008) fired an opening round of 2 under to lead all scores in the Girls 13-18 division at the Coyote Creek Open on Saturday. She began the final round with a 2 stroke advantage over Tessa The of Los Altos, CA (2010). Miss The led this division in pars on Saturday with 14 while Miss Allard led in birdies with 5.

On Sunday, Miss The carded the Low Round of 74 and took home the Title with 26 pars for the weekend.  Miss Allard, who led in birdies with 5 this weekend, earned 2nd place.

Fifteen year old Ellese Dias of Crockett, CA (2010) who opened with a round of 76 followed up with a round of 78 to earn 3rd place in her first FCWT event, one stroke ahead of  Ariana Patterson of Carmel, CA (2009).
