Round One of the Champions Gate Open got underway on Friday afternoon with a shotgun start. Once all the competitors scores were verified Roberto Francioni of Hausen, SWITZERLAND (2008) was atop the list with a 2 under par 70. Four birdies helped him to achieve a one stroke advantage over Richard Lamb of South Bend, IN (2009), who led this division in pars with 17.

Lamb's one under par was the only other sub-par round on Friday, but quite a few talented players in the field could go low this weekend. Sixteen year old William Lane of Ocala, FL (2009) will start the second round in 3rd place at even par. Five players are tied for 4th at 73 (+1): Antonio Grillo of Vineyard Haven, MA (2008), Ryan Booth of Homestead, FL (2008), Maxwell Campion of Brookline, MA (2009), Carl McCauley of Parkland, FL (2008), and Grant Gaugler III of Bradenton, FL (2008). Six players are tied for ninth at 2 over par, 4 shots back of our leader Francioni: Beau Schoolcraft of Englewood, CO (2008), Brant DeLongy of Winter Park, FL (2009), Jordan Rizzo of Sarasota, FL (2009), Phil Lea of Quebec, CANADA, Luke Benford of Hampshire, ENGLAND (2008), and Cyril Suk of Bradenton, FL (2011).

Burlison and Kelly both carded 4 birdies on the day to lead the division, but Sean had 12 pars (also leading the division with 2 other players) which gave him the advantage. James Leadbetter of Orlando, FL (2013) will start the second round in 3rd place at +5.
In the Boys 11-12 division, Rigel Fernandes of Dubai, UAE (2013) has a 5 stroke lead over Manish Reddy of Orlando, FL (2013). Fernandes led the division in pars with 14. Andrew Baez of Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO (2013) will start the 2nd round in 2nd place after an opening round of 85.
