On Saturday, Laetitia Beck of Caesarea, ISRAEL (2010) fired a 4 under par 68 to lead all scores in the Laura Diaz Girls 13-18 division at the PGA Golf Club Open. Miss Beck led this division in birdies on Saturday with 4 and had the only bogey-free round in the entire FCWT field at the PGA Golf Club Open. On Sunday, she began the final round with a 3 stroke advantage over Marika Lendl of Bradenton, FL (2008). Miss Lendl, who finished T3 last weekend, led this division in pars on Saturday with 15. The two were paired with one of Marika's younger sisters, Isabelle Lendl (2009) who began the final round T3. Both Marika and Laetitia know that Isabelle is very capable of going low, so on Sunday, Miss Beck brought her "A" game again as she and Isabelle tied for the Low Round on Sunday - both ladies carding rounds of 70. Both players finished with 8 birdies for the event to lead this division. Laetitia also carded 26 pars for the event, tying her with Yueer Feng, Monica Sealy and Marika. Marika's two rounds of 71 allowed her to finish at 2 under par and earn 2nd place, finishing one stroke ahead of Isabelle. All three of these young ladies are ranked in the Top 50 in the country in the Golfweek/Titleist rankings, making it a great pairing to follow on Sunday.
Caramia Sitompul of Jakarta, INDONESIA (2009), who began the day tied for 3rd with Isabelle, finished in 4th place at 148. Tiffany Cheung of Bradenton, FL (2008) finished with a round of 73 to earn 5th. FCWT newcomer 14 year old Monica Sealy of Trinidad (2011) held her own and finished in 6th in her first FCWT event while the 2007 FCWT Female Player of Promise 11 year old Yueer ("Cindy") Feng of Orlando, FL (2014) finished tied for 7th with Whitney Rhodes of Staunton, VA (2008).
In the Boys 13-15 division, Austin Powell of Jupiter, FL (2011) went wire-to-wire to win his first FCWT event. Powell who opened with a round of 4 under par 68 to lead his division on Saturday, played his first nine holes (the back nine) on Sunday at 4 under par. He finished at one over for the day on Sunday with a round of 73. On Saturday, he carded the only eagle in this division and led in birdies with 3 and tied for the most pars with 13. Fourteen year old Powell extended his 9 shot lead over Casey Matthews of Miami, FL (2010) to 14 shots for the win. Matthews who opened with a 77, carded a final round of 78 to earn 2nd place. Garber grabs the title in Leaderboard shuffle
Joey Garber of Vero Beach, FL (2010) began the final round of the FCWT PGA Golf Club Open in 3rd place, 3 strokes back of the lead, after an opening round of one under par 71. At the end of Sunday's round, he was in first place with a 5 stroke victory - and that is what we call tournament golf.
On Saturday, sixteen year old Bobby Fredeking of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2008) fired a 4 under par 68 to take the lead at the PGA Golf Club Open. Bobby's 5 birdies helped him to a 2 stroke advantage over FCWT newcomer Alex Disney of Jupiter, FL (2009). Disney carded a 2 under par round on Saturday and began the final round in 2nd place with a one stroke advantage over Garber. On Saturday, Garber tied Fredeking for the most birdies (5). Fredeking, Disney and Garber made up the final group on Sunday as they battled for the title. It looked like things were going to go Bobby's way as both Garber and Disney made bogey on # 1 to his par. But things flip-flopped on # 2 with Garber and Disney making par to Fredeking's bogey. All three struggled on the 3rd hole, with Fredeking having the worst of it and carding a double bogey. Then things began to turn as Disney made 3 birdies in a row on 4, 5, and 6. Garber matched his birdies on 4 and 5 and posted a par on # 6. Fredeking also made birdie on # 4 then settled into pars on the next 3 holes. When they made the turn Garber and Disney were both at even par for the day while Fredeking was at +1 for the round. The back side was good to Garber both days as he posted -2 on the back nine consecutively. The back was not as kind to Fredeking who carded a +5 on Sunday on the back nine, not to Disney who carded a +6 on the back nine. Third-year FCWT player Garber finished at -2 (70) on Sunday for his first FCWT win, after finishing in the top 3 twice last season. He led the field in birdies with 11 and also earned Sunday's Low Round honor. He was the only player to post 2 sub-par rounds in this division.
Senior Bobby Fredeking took home 2nd place, finishing one stroke ahead of Brandon Heinkel of Boynton Beach, FL (2009) and Phil Lea of CANADA, who began the day tied for 6th at +2. Namsub Padungsiriseth of North Augusta, SC (2009) who almost had a bogey-free round on Saturday with his single-bogey 73, led this field in pars with 30 and finished tied for 5th with Kyle Stucklen of Sayville, NY (2008) and Alex Disney. |
