The Opening Round of the Amelia Island Open began at 8:00 am on Friday with temperatures in the 70s as round one ended.  The Amelia Island area is Laura Diaz's hometown.  She learned to play golf here under the tutelage of her father Ron Philo.

In the Laura Diaz Girls 13-18 division, Michelle Lee of Mississauga, ON, CANADA (2010) took the first round lead with a round of 5 over par 77.  Fifteen year old Michelle is playing in her first FCWT event.  She leads FCWT veteran Victoria Bauman of River Hills, WI (2009) by 3 strokes as they head into round two on Saturday at the Oak Marsh Course.  Miss Bauman led this division in pars with 14 and has a 2 stroke advantage over Alicia Weber of Northville, MI (2009)Fifteen year old Sarah Almond of Albemarle, NC (2010) will begin the second round in 4th place at 83 and Brighid Hourihan of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2009) will begin in 5th place at 84.
