Carrier and Howell co-lead heading into Sunday's final round

At the end of 18 holes of play the Boys 16-18 division at the Amelia Island Open had co-leaders.  Alex Dienes of Jacksonville, FL (2009) and Greg Carrier of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2009) both opened with rounds of 73 (+1).  Dienes carded 13 pars on Friday while Carrier had three birdies.  On Saturday dense fog delayed the starting time for several groups and presented some challenges on the course.  Other than that it was a perfect day for golf at the Oak Marsh Course.  Hunter Howell of Raeford, NC (2008) carded a 74 to move into a tie for the lead with Carrier.  Howell, a third year player, won the 2005 FCWT Duke Open. Carrier, also a 3rd year player, won at the 13-15 level in January of 2006, but will be looking for his first win at the 16-18 level on Sunday.  He came very close to a win a couple of weeks ago at the University of Florida Open where he finished T2.  For the final round on Sunday, the two co-leaders will be paried with Ben Warquist of Rockville, MD (2011) who began the day tied with Howell in 6th place.  Anthony Aicher of Wausau, WI (2009) and Dienes will start the final round tied for 4th at 156, 5 shots back of the co-leaders.  The Low Round of the day was posted by

Ryne Toole of Pickerington, OH (2008) whose 73 was 14 strokes better than his opening round.  Dykes Harbin of Augusta, GA (2009) moved from tied for 10th to 6th place and Bryan Otis of Fort Mill, SC (2008), Alex Walker of Carmel, IN (2008), and Erick Stone of Alexandria, VA (2008) will start tied for 7th on Sunday.  Alex Boyd of Overland Park, KS (2009) and Josh Apple of Leesburg, VA (2008) will start tied for 10th at 159.

In the Boys 13-15 division, Patrick Rodgers of Avon, IN (2011) again posted the low round to continue to lead that division. Rodgers, who won the Purdue Open and has finished no worse than 3rd in his 4 events this season, carded a 73 (+1) on Friday to lead Kevin Giulini of Frankfurt by 5 strokes.  On Saturday he carded a 76 and now leads this division in birdies with 4 and pars with 23 on Friday.

Giulini, playing in his first event of the season, will now start the third round 8 strokes back of Rodgers and 2 strokes ahead of Walter Kerr of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2011).

Patrick Grahek of Cincinnati, OH (2011) will begin the final round in 4th place, just one stroke back of Kerr.

In the Boys 11-12 division, Luke Malanchuk of Arlington, VA (2013) carded an opening round of 80 to lead all scores.  Luke continues to lead after Saturday's round, but

Ian Mankoff of Lake Forest, IL (2013) improved his score by 17 strokes and posted the Low Round for this division on Saturday with an 81.  Lucas Schlossberg of ARGENTINA (2014) will start in 3rd place.

In the Laura Diaz Girls 13-18 division, Michelle Lee of Mississauga, ON, CANADA (2010) took the first round lead with a round of 5 over par 77.  Fifteen year old Michelle, who is playing in her first FCWT event, continues to lead after round two where she posted an 82.  FCWT veteran  Brighid Hourihan of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2009), who began the second round in 5th place, is closing in.  On Saturday Brighid carded a round of 78 to tie with FCWT veteran Victoria Bauman of River Hills, WI (2009).  Both young ladies are within 3 strokes of Miss Lee and will be paired with her for the final round.  Three young ladies are tied for 4th at 166:  Fifteen year old Sarah Almond of Albemarle, NC (2010), Alicia Weber of Northville, MI (2009).   and Natalia Ghilzon of Windsor, ON, CANADA (2008).
