Doris Chen of Bradenton, FL (2011) lit up the Mark Bostick Golf Course at The University of Florida with an opening round of 3 under par 67 to lead all scores.  Fourteen year old Chen is a third year FCWT player who won twice last season and was named a first team FCWT All-American.  On Saturday she demonstrated some of that "All-American" talent when she carded a bogey-free round with 3 birdies and led the division in pars with 15.  On Sunday, she did her best to conquer the "wind" and was able to finish with a 71, that allowed her to finish 2 under par for the event (138) and win her first event of this season.

Lauren Cate of St. Augustine, FL (2008)Miss Cate, who led this division in birdies with 7, carded a 68 on Saturday and then posted a round of 74 on Sunday to earn 2nd place.

Rizzo Reigns in Gainesville

The University of Florida Open at the newly renamed Mark Bostick Golf Course at The University of Florida began on Saturday with warm temperatures (in the 80s) under partly cloudy skies.  Many of the out-of-state players were happy for a respite from the bitter cold that has been affecting much of the country. On Sunday the weather became very difficult. The wind swirled all day while the temperatures dropped from the low 70's to the low 60's.

On Saturday in the Boys 13-18 division, Greg Carrier of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2009) led all scores with an opening round of even par 70.  Carrier, along with several other players, carded 3 birdies on Saturday.  On Sunday, Carrier struggled a bit but was able to finish tied for 2nd with

Ryan Wilson of Bradenton, FL (2009), who started the day tied for 2nd with Ryan Grassel of Chesterton, IN (2010), Jordan Rizzo of Sarasota, FL (2009), and Drew Mathews of Ft. Lauderdale, FL (2008). Wilson led this division in pars for the weekend with 29.

Rizzo prevailed on Sunday by posting his second consecutive round of 72 and leading this division in birdies with 7.  Jordan's round earned him the Low Round of the day and his first FCWT win in four seasons of play.  Rizzo also earned exempt status for the remainder of the season, including the 2008 National Championship.  Ryan Black of Port St. Lucie, FL (2008) carded the second best round of the day and moved from tied for 8th to tied for 4th with Drew Mathews of Ft. Lauderdale, FL (2008). Joshua Eure of Crofton, MD (2009) began the day tied for 8th and moved up to 6th place with a final round of 75.  Joseph Marino of Miami, FL (2008) carded a final round of 74 which put him in 7th place.  Gregory Della-Pietra of Stuart, FL (2008) finished in 8th place at 151.  William Lane of Ocala, FL (2009) finished tied for 9th with Ryan Grassel of Chesterton, IN (2010).

Grassel began the day only 2 strokes back of overnight leader Carrier and was tied for 2nd place overall as well as posting the best score among the 13-15 division players on Saturday.  He earned 1st place honors among the Boys 13-15 division on Sunday when he finished at 152, 3 strokes ahead of 2nd place finisher (T15th overall):

Scott Smyers of Lakeland, FL (2010).  Smyers tournament total of 155 allowed him to finish 3 strokes better than 3rd place finisher of the boys 13-15 James Yoon of Asuncion, PARAGUAY (2012).

In the Boys 11-12 division, Kristian Perry of Boca Raton, FL (2015) led wire-to-wire to earn his first FCWT win.  all scores with an opening round of 75.  Perry carded 22 pars during the event that helped to give him a 2 stroke margin of victory over
