Yanch goes wire-to-wire for the win

Jacqueline Yanch of Barrie, ON, CANADA (2009) opened the first round of the girls division of the Notre Dame Open with a 72.  The weather for this Notre Dame Open has been exceptional with temperatures in the 80s throughout the weekend.  Veteran players know that this event has been played many times in the cold, the rain, and even snowflakes.  Not this weekend, most players wore shorts and enjoyed golf as if they were in Florida.  Miss Yanch, who led the field in pars on Saturday with 13, was one such player.  Her opening round of one over par gave her a 2 stroke advantage over Natalia Ghilzon of Windsor, ON, CANADA (2008) going into Sunday's final round.  Miss Ghilzon led the field in birdies on Saturday with 3.  On Sunday Miss Yanch carded a 73, the Low Round of the day, and clinched her first FCWT title, while leading the field in birdies with 6 and pars with 22.  A solid performance all the way around for the Canadian junior.

The second best round on Sunday was posted by Taylor Gohn of Columbus, IN (2010)Miss Gohn carded a 74 which moved her to 2nd place.  Her opening round of 80, kept her out of the Top 5 on Saturday.  Finishing in 3rd place at 155, one stroke back of Miss Gohn was Taylor Schmidt of Kincardine, ON, CANADA (2009), who began the day in 3rd place.  Natalia Ghilzon finished in 4th place and fifteen year old Jackie Chang of Paradise Valley, AZ (2010) finished in 5th.

A pair of 72s = WIN for Aicher

On a beautiful weekend in South Bend, IN, 2nd year FCWT player Anthony Aicher of Wausau, WI (2009), won his first FCWT event of the season.  Aicher, who won the boys 13-15 division of the Cog Hill event last season, once again joins the field of October winners.  As an FCWT All-American, Aicher was already exempt for the 2007-08 regular season, but now he has earned an exemption to the 2008 National Championship.  After starting the day one stroke back of first round leader fifteen year old FCWT newcomer Ben-Marvin Egel of Kokomo, IN (2011) and tied with newcomer Andrew Walukonis of Traverse City, MI (2009), Aicher played steady golf carding 8 birdies this weekend and winning by 2 strokes over Eddie Hjerpe of Barrington, RI (2009).  Hjerpe began the day tied for 6th place, but carded a final round of even par to move up to 2nd.  Also carding a round of even par on Sunday and sharing the Low Round Honors with Hjerpe was Corey Ziedonis of Indianapolis, IN (2009), who started the day tied for 10th, but finished in 3rd place.  Andrew Walukonis of Traverse City, MI (2009) and Tobin Dunigan of Jackson, MI (2008) finished tied for 4th at 148.  Ziedonis and Walukonis both carded 26 pars on the weekend, the most in this division.  Michael Sorenson of Hartland, WI (2009) carded a final round of 72 to finish in 6th place.  Overnight leader Egel finished in 7th place in his first FCWT event. Luke Sniegowski of Ludington, MI (2008) and Barrett Kelpin of Kalamazoo, IN (2008) finished tied for 8th and one stroke ahead of the group that finished T10:  Ryan Prickette of Neenah, MI (2008), Mark Endres of Bryn Mawr, PA (2009), James Dewling of Brighton, MI (2008), Michael Coriasso of Grand Blanc, MI (2009) and Jon Trasamar of Blue Earth, MN (2009).  The most improved final round was Sam Kaiser of Fortville, IN (2009) who shaved 14 strokes from his opening round score.

Weber WINS!

In the Boys 13-15 division, 15 year old newcomer Sam Weber of Hartland, WI (2010) knew what he had to do on Sunday.  After finishing round one tied for the lead with second year player Patrick Rodgers of Avon, IN (2011), Weber carded the Low Round for this division on Sunday to pull away from Rodgers and win by 2 strokes.  After opening with a 72, Weber carded an even par 71 on Sunday to finish at 143 (+1) for the event.  He led this division in pars with 25 for the event.  Fifteen year old Rodgers lit up the course with 9 birdies on the weekend, but it wasn't enough this time around for the win.  His second place finish is only a starting point of things to come.  Finishing in 3rd place, 8 strokes back of Rodgers, was Jack Shoreman of Orangeville, ON, CANADA (2010)Shoreman, a 14 year old playing his first FCWT season, held onto 3rd place where he started the day despite a final round charge from Austin Wilson of Eden Prairie, MN (2011), who carded a final round of 72 to finish in 4th place. Jonathan Gerrard of Highland Park, IL (2012) and Nicholas Grubnich of Crown Point, IN (2011) finished tied for 5th at 159.

In the Boys 11-12 division, nine players teed it up and Austin Rendell of Winnetka, IL (2013) cruised to a victory after opening with a round of 72 on Saturday.  On Sunday, Rendell began with a 3 stroke lead over Thomas Felling of Florence, AZ (2013) and finished 6 strokes ahead as this whole division seemed to struggle on Sunday.  Ian Wright of Winnetka, IL (2013) held on to 3rd place after rounds of 77-83.
