It was not a good weather day for the opening round of the La Cantera Open, at least not for the morning portion of the round. But this is January, and most of these players aspire to play college golf. They certainly don't get to play in ideal circumstances.

Martin

Reid Martin of Mukilteo, WA (2009) made the best of it and opened with a round of 75 (+3) which gives him a one stroke advantage over John Beringer of Loveland, OH (2009). Martin led this division in pars with 13 on Saturday while Beringer and Bryan Jaska of Bowling Green, KY (2009) led in birdies with 4 apiece. Martin has finished 2nd in his last two events and would really like a win here. He will start round two, one shot ahead of Beringer and two shots ahead of

Edens

Parker Edens of Greeley, CO (2009) and

Graves

True Graves of Odessa, TX (2009). Jaska will begin the second round in 5th place at 79. Three players will begin the second round 6 strokes back of the leader Martin at 81 (T6): Andrew Beischel of Whitefish Bay, WI (2009), Alex Boyd of Overland Park, KS (2009), and Austin Snell of Baytown, TX (2008). Three players are also tied for 9th: Ryan Trujillo of Albuquerque, NM (2008), Chris McKay of Columbus, OH (2008), and David Holtgrewe of Cherry Hills Village, CO (2009).

Bryan Fickle of Sedalia, CO (2011) is leading the Boys 13-15 division after an opening round of 80. Fickle is playing in his first FCWT event. Brendan Connolly of Castle Rock, CO (2011) is currently in 2nd place, 2 strokes back of our leader at 82. Four strokes back of Connolly is Justin Blader of Eden Prairie, MN (2010). Wyatt Robson of Ada, OK (2013) and Austin Wilson of Eden Prairie, MN (2011) are currently tied for 5th at 91.

Snyder

David Snyder of Austin, TX (2016) is currently leading

Crawford

Clayton Crawford of Aspen, CO (2014) in the Boys 11-12 division.

The Girls division of the La Cantera Open battled some bad weather on Saturday morning for the opening round of the event.

Sims

Thirteen year old Mariana Sims of Austin, TX (2012) took the first round lead with an 83. She led this division in pars with 9 and has a 5 stroke advantage with 36 holes left to play.

Molly Dorans of Erie, CO (2009) will begin the second round in 2nd place at 88. Miss Dorans has previously finished 6th and tied for 11th this season. Chelsea Michalek of Glenview, IL (2009) will begin in 3rd place at 91. Katie Purcell of Ames, IA (2010) is just one stroke back at 92.
