Tyler Weworski of Carlsbad, CA (2009) closes strong at La Costa despite difficult weather conditions

The Boys 16-18 division at the La Costa Classic was a tightly contested battle after 18 holes of play. Fifty-four boys teed off on Saturday morning and at the end of Round One, three were tied for the lead at 2 under par.

First year FCWT player Mario Clemens of Beverly Hills, CA (2009) carded 4 birdies and 2 bogeys on his way to 2 under par. Senior Jens Bracht of Lake Forest Park, WA, carded 5 birdies on Saturday to put himself in a tie for the lead and rounding out the threesome of first round leaders was Namsub Padungsiriseth of North Augusta, SC (2009). Namsub had 4 birdies on the La Costa North Course during Saturday's round.

On Sunday play moved to the South Course and there ensued a leaderboard shuffle. Tyler Weworski of Carlsbad, CA (2009) who will be playing golf at Texas Tech University in the fall, began the final round in a tie for 4th with Johnny Henno of Solvang, CA (2009). Weworski, a 5th year FCWT player, finished T19 at this event last season, but on Sunday he fired a round of even par that gave him a 4 stroke victory. Tyler led this division in birdies with 8 and earned his second top 3 finish of the season.

Catlin

John Catlin of Carmichael, CA (2009), practically came out of nowhere to finish in 2nd place. Catlin fired the only sub-par round on Sunday in conditions that were so wet the FCWT staff had to squeegie the greens at regular intervals just to keep play going. Catlin's bogey-free two under par 70 also earned him Low Round honors for this event.

Miss Lendl, a 4th year FCWT player, earned her first 13-18 division win on Sunday on her 41st hole of play in this 36 hole event. She now joins older sisters, Marika and Isabelle in the FCWT winners circle members. For Miss Salant, it was a demonstration of the fortitude of her game and that fortitude will one day soon put her in the winner's circle as well. Miss Piccio, a first year FCWT player who won the World Woods Open in October, finished in 3rd place just 3 strokes ahead of Mackinzie Kline of Encinitas, CA (2010), who finished 3rd in this event last season and finished T2 in January at PGA West.
