Miss Beck, who won earlier this season when she opened the PGA Golf Open with a round of 68, had 6 birdies on Saturday and began Sunday's round with a 2 shot lead over Megan Pak of New Orleans, LA (2009) who was at even par 71. While Miss Beck led in birdies for Round One, Victoria Kiser of Orlando, FL (2010) tied Melissa Edmonson of Miami, FL (2010) for the most pars. Miss Kiser started in 4th place at 74 on Sunday then fired the Low Round of the day, a 70, to move into a tie for the lead with Miss Beck. Miss Kiser, who had 3 straight FCWT wins during the fall, had 8 birdies on Sunday. As the #44 Golfweek/Titleist player, she will be hard to beat on Monday for the final round, but Miss Beck is a formidable competitor. She is currently ranked # 45. Megan Pak will be paired with the co-leaders and is only one stroke back at 145. Just one stroke back of Miss Pak at 146 is Maria Piccio of the PHILIPPINES (2009), who won the World Woods event earlier this season. Miss Edmonson will start in 5th place at 149, 5 strokes back of our co-leaders.
Steinberg continues to lead with 18 holes left to play
Senior Roy Steinberg of Caesarea, ISRAEL fired an opening round of 3 under par 68 on Saturday at the Doral Classic. Steinberg, played the front side 3 under with no bogeys. On Sunday, Steinberg improved on that by firing a bogey-free round of 2 under par 69 to increase his lead from 1 stroke to 3. A third year FCWT player, Steinberg would like to earn his first FCWT win on Monday, but he will have to hold off the hard-charging competition. Both Stanislav Matus of CZECH REPUBLIC (2008) and Oscar Sharpe of Cheltenham, ENGLAND (2010) fired rounds of 3 under par 68 on Sunday. Both are capable of repeating that on Monday, or even going lower. Matus currently sits in 2nd place so the win is most accesible to him, but Sharpe is not to be counted out. He moved into a tie for 5th with his round and he has proven that he knows how to win, having won 3 times already this season (one of only 2 players to do so in this division). Sharpe got hot during round two, carding 4 birdies in a row on # 7-10. Jason Burstyn of Miami, FL (2008) is just one stroke back of Matus at 141 and will start in 3rd. Another player who was on the move on Sunday was Jake Shepherd of London, UK (2008). Shepherd, a British pal of Sharpe, fired a 2 under par 69 and will start the final round in 4th place. Gregory Della-Pietra of Stuart, FL (2008), who already has 3 top 10s this season, and Robert Smith of Osteen, FL, (2010), will begin the final round tied for 5th with Sharpe at 144, 7 strokes back of our leader Steinberg.
Benjamin Martin of TRINIDAD (2008), currently tied for 10th, eagled the par 5 second hole for the second day in a row. Another Benjamin, Benjamin Palanszki of Budapest, HUNGARY (2010), is leading this division in birdies with 10. He is also tied for 10th. Della-Pietra is leading this division in pars with 28 thus far.
Ceravolo pulls away from the pack
In the Boys 13-15 division Sunday's round began with Matthew Ceravolo of Palm Beach Gardens, FL (2011) and Brendan Connolly of Castle Rock, CO (2011) co-leading after each carded an opening round of 73. But 73 wasn't good enough for Ceravolo, so on Sunday he posted a round of 71 and took sole possession of the lead. His round of even par included 16 pars and he currently leads this division in pars for the event with 27. Connolly will start the final round in 2nd place, 4 strokes back of the lead. The third member of the final pairing for this division will be Kevin Giulini of GERMANY (2011) who is at 149. Austin Powell of Jupiter, FL (2011), who won at the PGA Golf Club event, will start in 4th place at 150, just a stroke ahead of FCWT newcomer Michael Pospisil of CZECH REPUBLIC (2012), and Oliver Vaidis of Bradenton, FL (2012), who are tied for 5th at 151. Eric Hallberg of Castle Rock, CO (2012), who carded the only eagle in this division on Saturday, now leads this division in birdies with 8 for the event. He will start in 7th place at 152. |
