
Savich comes from 4th to win for the second weekend in a row
Senior Milena Savich of Carmel, IN, who just won the Yankee Trace Open last weekend, started in 4th place on Sunday after an opening round of 80, then fired the Low Round for this division on Sunday, a 73, and was tied with overnight leader

seventeen year old Jaclyn Shepherd of Delafield, WI (2009). Miss Shepherd carded her best round of the season on Saturday with a 74, that gave her the first round lead at the Whistling Straits Classic. Her 12 pars on Saturday led this division and allowed her a 2 stroke advantage over Nora Lucas of Glenview, IL (2008) entering Sunday's final round.
But it was Miss Savich, who came on strong on Sunday, birdied the last two holes of play (8 & 9) forcing a playoff. In the playoff Milena kept the momentum going by making a par on # 10 (the first playoff hole) for the victory. (The two had tied for the most pars on the weekend prior to the playoff - 23 apiece). Miss Lucas, who led this division in birdies with 5, finished in 3rd.
Fourteen year old Sara Detlefsen of Eagan, MN (2012) carded the only eagle of the event in this division when she made a 2 on the par 4, 4th hole.

Bettinardi wins Whistling Straits after finishing T33 last season
What a difference a year makes. Last season Sammy Bettinardi of Lemont, IL (2008) left the Whistling Straits Classic tied for 33rd after rounds of 84-91. Fast forward to this season and Bettinardi opens the Whistling Straits Classic with a round of one over par (73) on the Irish Course to lead all scores in the Boys 16-18 division. Bettinardi, a third year FCWT player, was playing in his only event of the season and was looking to go out with a win! He need look no further.
On Saturday, Sammy led this division in pars with 15 and had a three shot advantage over second year FCWT player

Brett Tomfohrde of Hinsdale, IL (2009) going into Sunday's final round. On Sunday, Bettinardi, who led this division in pars with 22, put an exclamation point on his round by making birdie on # 18 and guaranteeing himself his first FCWT title.

Stephen Powers of Naperville, IL (2010), who led this division in birdies with 8, tied for the Low Round Honors with Shawn Steurer of Batavia, IL (2009) on Sunday (a 76), and finished in 2nd place. Tomfohrde finished just one stroke back of Powers in 3rd place. Alexander Gutesha of Greenwood Village, CO (2009) finished in 4th place at 155 followed by 5th year FCWT player Wilson Bowen of Winnetka, IL (2008). Bowen , who finished 2nd in this event last season. Mills Rendell of Winnetka, IL (2010) finished 6th at 158, just one stroke ahead of Cole Childs of Holliston, MA (2010) sho earned his third Top 10 of the season. Alex Pakzad of Bellvue, WA (2009) finished tied for 8th with David Holtgrewe of Cherry Hills Village, CO (2009) and Dane Worley of Cedar Rapids, IA (2011).

Connolly comes from behind, fires a 1 under par and wins his 2nd event of the season in the Boys 13-15 division
Brendan Connolly of Castle Rock, CO (2011), who led this division in pars with 12 on Saturday, cranked up his golf swing on Sunday and carded 4 birdies on his way to a one under par 71 that earned him his second title of the season.

On Saturday, Ross Bowen of Winnetka, IL (2010) led a trio of players, including Connolly, tied for 2nd by two strokes after opening with a round of 77.

Knoll earns first win in the Boys 11-12
In the Boys 11-12 division, Raymond Knoll of Naperville, IL (2013) carded two solid rounds of 81-76 and earned his first win of the season to go with his two previous second place finishes. Drew Langan of Winnetka, IL (2013) improved his second round by 8 strokes to finish 2nd and Marc Valentine of Fond du Lac, WI (2014) finished in 3rd place |
