Matthew Mabry
Mabrey looks to Monday
Palm Beach Garden, FL: Sunday was a busy day at the Champion Course at PGA National. The Afternoon Wave from Saturday's Round One of the Boys 16-18 FCWT National Championship was not able to finish their round due to severe thunderstorms which rumbled through the area for several hours. Those players returned to the course early Sunday morning to finish Round ONe.
When they took up where they left off on Saturday, several new faces emerged at the top of the leaderboard one of which was fifteen year old Matthew Mabrey of Little Rock, AR (2011) who joined the group at 2 under par (70). When all scores were tallied for the first round, a player had to be at -1 or better to be in the Top 10.
The players who finished Round One on Sunday morning proceeded immediately back onto the golf course to begin Round Two.
As the players began arriving in the scorer's area upon completion of their Second Round, several secured their position above the cut line. The first was
Walker
Daniel Walker of Earlysville, VA (2009) who opened with a 72 then followed up with a 71 to put himself at 1 under for the event. Daniel, who won at French Creek and Virginia Beach, will start the final round in 3rd place.
Matthew Mabry
Matthew Mabrey of Little Rock, AR (2011) who had finished his first round on Sunday morning and posted a 70, improved by one stroke and posted a 69 for his Round Two score. His tournament total of 5 under par put him at the top of the leaderboard where he remained throughout the day. . The 6' 3" 15 year old from Little Rock did not win in this his 3rd FCWT season, but his game has continued to improve and this may be his weekend to break through. He will begin the final round with a 2 stroke advantage over
Puyat
Fifteen year old Marcel Puyat of PHILIPPINES (2011). Puyat carded an opening round of 69, 3 under par, despite carding a 6 on the par 4 11th hole shortly after beginning his opening round on # 10. Puyat will start the Final Round in 2nd place at 3 under par for the event.
Balit
Another 15 year old Zachary Balit of Montreal, CANADA (2010) will start the final round in 4th place at +1, 2 strokes back of Daniel Walker. Balit, who won the Bobcat Trail event this season, was named an FCWT All-American on Friday night along with Walker. Balit will begin Round Three with a one stroke advantage over: Cory Siegfried of Villanova, PA (2008), Dykes Harbin of Augusta, GA (2009), and
Richard Lamb
Richard Lamb of South Bend, IN (2009).
Ben Juffer
While Ben Juffer of Des Moines, IA (2009) did not take over the lead from Mabrey, he did post a lower round. Juffer's bogey-free round of 4 under par 68 was the Low Round on Sunday. It moved Juffer up to +3 for the event where he will start the Final Round tied for 8th place with Matthew Ceravolo of Palm Beach Gardens, FL (2011), who gets to sleep in his own bed during the event; Jay Mulieri of Silver Spring, MD (2008), whose Round Two score of even par moved him into the Top 10, William Wiseman of Salisbury, MD (2009) and Connor Arendell of Cape Coral, FL (2008).
Ryan Frederick of Lockport, IL (2009), posted the only other sub-par round on Sunday with a one under par 71 that put him at +5 for the event. Six players carded an eagle during the 36 holes played so far: Joshua Eure of Crofton, MD (2009), Michael Ferranolo of Wellington, FL (2008), Raymond Gillip II of Las Vegas, NV (2009), Stanislav Matus of CZECH REPUBLIC (2008), Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz, CA (2010), and Petur Petursson of University Park, FL (2009).
Chase Sargent of Orlando, FL (2008) leads the field in birdies with 11 and Matthew Ceravolo leads in pars with 29.
For those of you sitting at home enjoying a nice relaxing weekend, consider this:
Ryne toole
This is Ryne Toole with his ball which he recovered after it rolled down into an alligator's mouth on Hole 6 during Round Two. The alligator then spit it out and Ryne picked up the ball and finished his round. How's that for a Florida souvenir?!
