Sharing the Lead ~ 3 of 4 divisions have co-leaders
The ACE Club Open got underway with mostly sunny skies as the fall air reached the low 60s by the end of play.
In the Boys 16-18 division, Joshua Eure of Crofton, MD (2009) led the 40 player field with a round of even par 72. Eure had 8 birdies on the day, twice as many as the next best player. Eure will be looking for his first FCWT win on Sunday in his first event at the 16-18 level. He will begin the final round with a 1 stroke advantage over FCWT veteran player Robert Robertson of Philadelphia, PA (2008). Robertson would also like to win his first FCWT event on Sunday, so it should be a great final round. Robertson and Eure won't just need to be concerned with each other; two other FCWT veterans are tied for 3rd at +2. Gene Yang of East Brunswick, NJ (2009) and Cory Siegfried of Villanova, PA (2008) will be in the hunt for the title as well. There is a threesome tied for 5th at 75, just three strokes back of the leader. Ken Jee of Bethesda, MD (2008), playing in his first FCWT event, is tied with veteran Ryan Blair of Center Valley, PA (2009) and Mike Miller of Brewster, NY (2010), also playing in his first FCWT event. Brian Murphy of Wilton, CT (2009) will start in 8th, just 4 strokes back of the lead and Eric Fischer of Radnor, PA (2008) will start in 9th, just 5 shots out of the lead. Four players are tied for 10th at 78.
In the Boys 13-15 division, Zachary Herr of New Hope, PA (2013), and Harry Higgs of Overland Park, KS (2010) are tied for the lead after one round of play at 75. Herr led this division in birdies with 4. Higgs had three top 5 finishes last season in 3 starts. They lead Edward McCrossen of Ambler, PA (2010) and Sean Elliott of Westfield, NJ (2011) who are tied for 3rd at 78 by three strokes. McCrossen led this division in pars with 13. Elliott had two 5th place finishes last season. Samuel Hockfield of Gladwyne, PA (2010) is currently in 5th place after an opening round of 80.
Two players co-lead the Boys 11-12 division after Saturday's round. Danny Guise of Greenwich, CT (2013) and John Morissey of White Plains, NY (2013) both opened with rounds of 78 (+6). They will have a 6 stroke advantage over C.J. Wagner of Easton, PA (2013) heading into the final round.
The Girls division of the ACE Club Open has co-leaders as Christie Tallent of Haverford, PA (2008) and Caroline Sweet of Bowie, MD (2008) are tied at 79 (+7). Miss Tallent led this division in pars with 11. Miss Sweet is playing in her first FCWT event. They will begin the final round with a one stroke advantage over Jacqueline Evans of Wayne, PA (2008) who carded a round of 80. The three will be paired together for the final round of play.
Lauren Smith of Crofton, MD (2009) will begin the final round in 4th place at 81, just 2 strokes back of the leaders. Kelly Shon of Port Washington, NY (2010) will begin in 5th at 82 and Laura Reynolds of West Chester, PA (2008) will start at 84 in 6th place. |
