Solberg's SECOND ~ Lindsey wins second weekend in a row

With rounds of 75-77, Lindsey Solberg of Verona, WI (2008) became the first FCWT player of the 2007-08 season to win multiple events.  Solberg, who won last weekend at Purdue, was a 2006-07 FCWT All-American last season after winning the Notre Dame Open in October 2006, is well on her way to that award again with a second win in as many weeks.  Solberg led this division in pars with 23 for the event and moved from one stroke back at the beginning of Round Two to win by 2 strokes.  Overnight leader  Erin Sharpee of Green Bay, WI (2009) finished in 2nd place.  Miss Sharpee, who won the Whistling Straits event in May 2007, was playing in her first event of the 2007-08 season.  She and Lindsey both carded 12 pars on Saturday to lead the field.   Miss Sharpee finished with 20 pars for the weekend.  Ashley Armstrong of Flossmoor, IL (2011), who carded one of 2 eagles on Saturday (the other was carded by Chelsea Michalek of Glenview, IL, 2009), also shared the lead in this division in birdies for the event (5) with Victoria Bauman of River Hills, WI (2009) who finished 5th and finished T3 with Lauren English of Bloomington, IL (2011)

Trasamar takes the leaderboard head on

At the end of Saturday's round of the St. Andrews Open, this column noted that "4th year veteran Jon Trasamar of Blue Earth, MN (2009)  . . . shaved several strokes off his final round earlier this month at Notre Dame to finish T10.  Watch for him to move up the leaderboard tomorrow as well."  Trasamar did not disappoint.  On Sunday, he fired the Low Round of 69 (-2) and moved all the way to the top of the leaderboard to earn his first FCWT winner ever.  Twice before (2004-05 and 2005-06) Trasamar took home 2nd place, but today it was his turn.  The junior led this field in pars with 26 on the weekend on his way to overtaking overnight leaders Kyle English of Bloomington, IL (2009) and David Erdy of Boonville, IN (2008).

English, a third year player, played some of his best FCWT golf at this event.  His Saturday round of one over par, included 4 birdies, put him in a tie for the lead with Erdy, who won last weekend at Purdue. for the most in this division.  English's final round of 75 put him in 2nd place at the end of the 36 hole event while Erdy dropped to tied for 3rd with Alex Walker of Carmel, IN (2008).  Walker's rounds of 75-74 allowed him to finish 8 strokes better than last weekend and about 18 spots higher on the leaderboard.  Sixteen year old Stephen Powers of Naperville, IL (2010) led this division in birdies with 7 and finished tied for 5th with veteran player Brett Coburn of Libertyville, IL (2009).

Thirteen year old Jonathan Gerrard of Highland Park, IL (2012) came from T5 to win his first FCWT event

On Saturday in the Boys 13-15 division, third year player John Callahan of Hinsdale, IL (2010), led all scores with a round of 75 (+4).  He began Sunday's round with a 2 shot advantage over a group of 3 tied for 2nd at 77:  thirteen year old Michael Holevas of Elgin, IL (2012), thirteen year old Charlie Marshall of Lake Forest, IL (2012), and 15 year old Trevor Rosekrans of Haslett, MI (2010).  On Sunday, none of those young men would take home the title.  That honor was reserved for 13 year old Jonathan Gerrard who carded an opening round of 79 on Saturday that put him in a tie for 5th with Nicholas Grubnich of Crown Point, IN (2011).  On Sunday, Gerrard improved his score by 4 strokes, carded the Low Round and won the event.  Thirteen year old Charlie Marshall of Lake Forest, IL (2012) finished in 2nd place just one stroke back and Nicholas Grubnich of Crown Point, IN (2011) and 15 year old Trevor Rosekrans of Haslett, MI (2010), who earned 3rd place at Purdue last weekend, finished tied for 3rd.

Nate Strigenz won the Boys 11- 12 on the third playoff hole (#10) with a birdie

Twelve year old Nate Strigenz of Fond du Lac, WI (2013) carded the Low Round for this division on Sunday to put himself in a tie for the lead with overnight leader FCWT newcomer Raymond Knoll of Naperville, IL (2012)  at the end of 36 holes.  It took 3 playoff holes, but when Stringenz made birdie on # 10, he earned the win in his first FCWT event.  On Saturday Knoll carded an opening round of 75 (+4) in his first FCWT event.  He began Sunday's round leading Ian Mankoff of Lake Forest, IL (2013) by 1 stroke.  Twelve year old Drew Langan of Winnetka, IL (2013), who finished 2nd at Purdue, started the day in 3rd place.  Strigenz who opened with an 80 started the day in 4th place.  Overnight leader Knoll took home 2nd and Mankoff and Langan finished tied for 3rd.
